Using food to decorate at Christmas is both fun and delicious. From sliced oranges to popcorn garlands and sprigs of rosemary to gingerbread men, there are loads of creative ways to make your home feel more festive using food and I hope the images below inspire you to try it for yourself this Christmas.
Decorating with Candy Canes
Candy Canes make amazing Christmas decorations for lots of reasons. They’re cheap, colourful and can be used pretty much anywhere. As they are plastic-wrapped they will last for years – if you can resist eating them that is! They also make a lovely edible addition to gifts and can be used as part of the wrapping too. See this festive rocky road recipe for another fab way to use candy canes!

Sliced Oranges
Sliced oranges are easy to make – simply cut your oranges and then pop in the oven at a very low temperature for a few hours. Once cooled they can be used in a multitude of ways including garlands and wreaths or displaying in glass bowls.

Cinnamon Sticks
Cinnamon sticks are a lovely addition to any home during the festive period – tied in small bunches they can be used to decorate the tree or any other greenery. You can also boil a few sticks in some water on the stove to give your home a lovely festive scent.

Ginger Bread Men and Ginger Bread Houses
I love making gingerbread houses and gingerbread men over the festive period. Whether you make gingerbread from scratch or make a house from one of the many kits available, it’s a brilliant Christmas activity for the family. Houses can be displayed and gingerbread mean can be strung up to provide beautiful homemade decorations for all-around your home.

Popcorn
Popcorn is both easy and cheap to make to use as Christmas decorations – and you can easily make enough to munch on while you decorate too. Best used threaded onto strings and hung over the Christmas tree.
