If you’re anything like us, you might well have a cupboard full of empty GU ramekins. If you’ve been looking for ways to reuse these little dishes, you might be wondering: Are GU Ramekins oven safe?
We are big fans of the pudding brand GU (our favourite is the Salted Caramel Cheesecake, in case you were wondering) and they are such sweet little dishes it can be difficult to throw them out. They always seem as though they might come in handy for something, even if you’re not entirely sure what!
If you’re a keen baker, you might be asking yourself whether GU ramekins are oven safe. After all, they would be perfect for baking souffle, baked cheesecakes and mini crumbles.
Are GU Ramekins Oven Safe?
Yes, GU Ramekins are oven safe. Some GU puddings are actually made to be heated in the oven before eating (although not the cheesecakes we’re so fond of!) so it’s fine to use these glass ramekins in the oven at home for cooking your own dishes.
One thing to be wary of is that the glass ramekins do get extremely hot when in the oven. So extra care should be taken when moving them in and out and if you’re plating a dish while it’s still hot.
Here are a few recipes you could try in your old GU ramekin pots:

Can Ramekins Go In The Oven?
Yes, ordinary ramekins made from stainless steel porcelain, ceramics or other glazed earthware are typically designed to be as oven safe as possible.
Can Gu Ramekins Be Used In The Air Fryer?
Yes, GU Ramekins can be used in the Air Fryer. An Air Fryer works in much the same way as a normal oven, just on a much smaller scale which is what makes them so efficient.
Typically, Air Fryers only heat up to around 220°C which is much lower than the top temperatures an oven can reach, therefore, using glass ramekins, including those made by GU is perfectly safe in an Air Fryer.
Just like when taking Gu Ramekins out of the oven, be sure to take extra care when removing them from the Air Fryer, as the glass will likely be very hot.
Heating GU puddings in an Air Fryer is actually a cheaper and more energy-efficient way to cook or heat them up, you’ll just need to take a few minutes off the suggested cooking time.

Can GU Pots Be Used In The Microwave?
Yes, GU pots are microwave safe and can be used in the microwave. The glass ramekins may get hot while being microwaved so take extra care when removing them, a cloth or oven gloves may be required.
What Can Glass Ramekins Be Used For?
There are plenty of ways GU glass Ramekins can be reused, the most obvious being for serving little snacks and nibbles or reusing them as dishes for your own homemade cheesecakes. As you can see from the picture above, we often use them for olives and habitas fritas.
A plastic Pringles lid fits nicely (although not super tightly) over a GU Ramekin making them ideal for use in lunch boxes and on picnics too as well as for storing non-food items such as craft materials, coins and buttons.
Are Gu Ramekins Freezer Safe?
Yes, GU ramekins are freezer safe and can be used for freezing small amounts of food. The top of the ramekin could be covered with a Pringles lid, tin foil or cling film.
Can Glass Ramekins Be Recycled?
According to the GU website, their glass ramekins can be recycled, although it doesn’t say whether they can be added to kerbside recycling or would need to be taken to a recycling centre.
If unsure you could contact your local council and ask what they would recommend.
Other types of toughened glass often used for cookware, such as Pyrex, are not suitable for recycling.
