This weekend we had a date night at Bistrot Pierre Weston-Super-Mare. I’d eaten there a couple of times before, but not for a few years (thanks to the pandemic) and my husband had never eaten there before.
As we eat out quite a bit, we felt we’d recently been to all our favourite restaurants in both Bridgwater and Taunton so decided to look a bit further afield.
One thing that Bistrot Pierre Weston-Super-Mare really has going for it is the location.
It’s located right on the seafront, close to the famous pier and other attractions.
Even better, is the fact the restaurant is over two floors and has mostly floor-to-ceiling windows.
What Is It Like At Bistrot Pierre Weston-Super-Mare?
If you’re looking for dinner with a view then this is the place to go.
I love the fact Bistrot Pierre is standalone, there are no other buildings nearby to block the views and there is plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating (although this particular Saturday was a little windy for the latter!)
The restaurant itself has a rustic feel to it. I think when I said ‘French Restaurant my husband automatically thought fancy waiters, white table cloths etc and that just isn’t his vibe. He’s also not keen on dressing up, so he wore vertX jeans while I wore a casual dress.

Bistrot Pierre is family-friendly and of course, Weston-Super-Mare is a popular holiday resort so there were lots of children as the restaurant filled up for Saturday evening service.
If you’re looking for somewhere intimate then this might not be the place for you although there was plenty of room between all of the tables unlike some other similar-style restaurants (looking at you Prezzo.)
What Is The Service Like at Bistrot Pierre Weston-Super-mare?
We arrived at our booking a little bit early, around 15 minutes but the staff were more than happy to accommodate us and we had a lovely cosy spot with views across the bay to Brean Down.

Overall the staff were really lovely and attentive. We did have a bit of a wait for ordering our desserts and again while waiting to pay the bill although I know some restaurants do prefer their guests not to feel rushed so this may have been intentional.
Here’s what we ordered at Bistrot Pierre Weston-Super-Mare
Now, I’ am 100% one of those people who spend ages perusing menus before I eat somewhere, so I already had a pretty good idea of what I wanted.
Starters:
Bread Basket
Deep-Fried Brie Wedges
Calamari
The bread was really fresh and soft and perfect to nibble on while we waited on our starters. There was a party of 20 in the restaurants while we were there but this didn’t seem to delay our food at all which was nice.
The deep-fried brie was really delicious ad something I would definitely order if we went again. The plum chutney the brie is served with was slightly tart but paired perfectly with it.
The Calimari was nice, my husband loved it but it was a little bit spicy for my taste.
Mains:
Pan-Fried Duck Breast
Steak Frites
My main course of Pan Fried Duck Breast arrived I was surprised how much gravy there was on the dish – it’s advertised as coming with a red wine jus but it really tasted like packet gravy with a splash of red wine.

That’s not to say it wasn’t delicious, because it absolutely was, although the amount of gravy made it feel like I was eating a roast dinner with duck instead of chicken or beef.
The duck breast itself was tender and crispy-skinned.
The dauphinoise potatoes were to die for, I personally would have preferred them not to be drowning in gravy – although that is a personal preference more than a comment on the quality of the dish.
Bavette is one of my husband’s favourite cuts of steak so he was pleased to find it on a menu somewhere (I think this is the main reason he agreed on Bistrot Pierre to be honest!) and he couldn’t fault the dish at all. It’s also excellent value at just £12.95 and while not the most tender cut, it is extremely tasty and comes with peppercorn sauce or garlic butter included.
Desserts:
Tart Au Citron
Tourte Au Chocolat
I went for the Tart Au Citron, mostly because we often share desserts when out and as my husband didn’t want one I went for the fruity option which he doesn’t like.

Of course, as soon as I ordered my dessert he changed his mind and went for one too, the Tourte Au Chocolat.

The presentation of the desserts was really lovely and both tasted delicious. The Tourte Au Chocolat was especially good, it has a very intense cocoa flavour, without being too rich or sickly. It’s also pretty big so perfect for sharing.
Is Bistrot Pierre Weston-Super-Mare Good Value For Money?
All together our three-course meal and three soft drinks came to £66.90. We thought this was really good value considering we had steak and duck breast which typically come with a more premium price tag.
Bistrot Pierre Weston-Super-Mare offers several set menus, including a lunch menu (Prix Fix, 3 courses £17.95) and a weeknight evening menu (Menu Soiree – 3 courses and wine for £22) which all look like excellent value for money.

Would We Return To Bistrot Pierre Weston-Super-Mare?
Yes, we definitely would. We would come back for a date night as the food was the nicest we’d had in quite a while at a restaurant.
I think sometimes the more upmarket chain restaurants can be a bit hit and miss but really enjoyed all of our food and thought prices were reasonable.
We’re planning to do some shows at the Playhouse Theatre in Weston over the winter months so will more than likely choose here for a pre-show lunch or dinner.
Final Thoughts – Bistrot Pierre Weston-Super-Mare
Bistrot Pierre Weston-Super-Mare offers great value food with a great view.
The restaurant is within easy reach of the pier and the local theatre making it the perfect place to grab a bite to eat if you fancy something a bit different to the traditional seaside fare.
Overall I’d give our experience 4.5/5
